This work as a whole deals with western New York prior to settlement; is largely based on documentary sources, and testifies to much painstaking research. The first volume embraces the period from the first records of white man's interaction with the Iroquois, down to the breaking up of their confederacy after Sullivan's campaign during the American Revolution. This work is an indispensable resource for students of the Six Nations Indians in relation to the whites and their participation in the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and the War of 1812.
